The Department of Arabic was established in 1919 with Professor Abdus Sattar Siddiqui as its first Head. Initially, Arabic was offered at the Intermediate and U.G levels. PG. and Ph. D. programmes commenced in 1923 and 1935 respectively. The M. Phil. Programme was introduced in 1979.

The faculty of the Dept. of Arabic has published a number of books and research articles. Six teachers of the Department were awarded "Certificate of Honour" by the Govt of India President of India Award.

Professor Mohammed Abdul Moid Khan and Professor Abdul Haq were deputed to the Oxford University UK for the advanced studies. Prof. Mohammed Moid Khan former Head Department of Arabic started the Arabic research journal "Al-Tanveer" in 1963.

Maulana Hussamuddin Fazil Memorial Gold Medal for topper in M. A. in 1989. Another Gold Medal was instituted in the name of Dr. AbulFazl Memorial Gold Medal for topper in History of Arabic Literature in 2006.

In order to meet the challenges of the 21st Century and to prepare competent personnel for Translation, Interpretation and Teaching, the P.G. curriculum was revised.

Departmental Research Journal "ATTANVEER" publishes every year with ISBN number . Many students cracked net JRF & SRF, Prof. S.Talath Sultana for four years i.e. appointed as E.C Member by the Govt of Telangana.

Mustafa Shareef appointed as the dean of Arts in 2017. Prof. S.TalathSultana is the only lady appointed as Senior Professor, and appointed as Dean of Arts in 2023 and Principal of Arts College in 2024.

Dept of Arabic organized a National Seminar in the history of Osmania University on the founder of the Osmania University i.e "Sir Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan,Nizam VII his life & Work."

Arabic Dept gives the services of Translation & Interpretation on work at International level.
